Promoting Retired Racing Greyhound Adoption through Living History |
|
Few children have seen the world's second fastest land animal (next only to the Cheetah). In truth, most people have never experienced the pure joy and beauty of a Greyhound in full stride, muscles straining, completely focused on the instinct of a thousand years to run. When not coursing, a Greyhound is an animal of uncommon sweetness and gentility. Looking into the eyes of these noble creatures helps to instill a sense of reverence for our common environment, and a respect which we owe to all creatures with whom we share this fragile planet.
Greyhounds make excellent pets; they are sensitive, intelligent creatures who adapt easily to their new life. If you are looking for a new pet, won't you please consider a greyhound? |

We are Her Majesty’s Hounds, an all volunteer, nonprofit, educational re-enactment group of Retired Racing Greyhounds and dog lovers. Our sole (soul) purpose is to find potential loving “forever” homes for retired racing Greyhounds. We achieve this by providing information about Greyhounds and Greyhound adoption while exhibiting what excellent, loving pets these Noble Creatures make. We are based in Northern Virginia, and are working towards becoming a registered, non-profit, charitable organization. By supporting local, regional, and national Greyhound adoption groups our members assist with the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of retired racing Greyhounds.

We bring history to life by presenting our noble hounds while in period dress and manner.
We teach something of the background of this historically Regal Breed and introduce the ancient 'Sport of Queens' to children of all ages.
Our volunteers attend workshops to learn about both the history of the breed and of the period, along with acting and improvisational techniques.
All this is done so we can create a memorable presentation that will both entertain and educate people about the role of the Greyhound in society today and in history.
As you visit our site, we hope you will come away with a sense of enlightenment and a bit of new knowledge about these Majestic couch potatoes! |
